CASTELLANO
Rather than following a conventional chronological narrative—of exact dates, authorship, artistic hierarchies, or institutional milestones—I chose to lower my gaze and focus on the human scale.
I selected artworks, activities, events, concerts, interviews, lecture series, performances, and exhibitions. But I also went out to photograph the people who shape and sustain the museum every day: the office staff, reception and information teams, gallery attendants, cleaners, production staff, directors, installers, painters, security guards, and, of course, the people who visit the museum each day.
A mosaic of images, interwoven with sentences from anonymous people responding to questions about culture and art, gradually forms this mural. It can be read in any order, and floor by floor it builds its own narrative—one rooted in closeness and everyday life.
The mural was drawn between November 12 and 21 using acrylic paint, brushes, and a great many Posca markers.
My heartfelt thanks to Elvira Dyangani for thinking of me and simply saying, “Go for it,” and to the entire MACBA team for encouraging and cheering me on from the corridors and walkways. Thank you, Pol, for handling the lift with such care; thank you, Myriam, for coordinating the project; and thank you, Camila, for searching, selecting, and cataloguing all the material.
It has been a wonderful experience.
